This dolphin’s name is Winter, and it is in the medium free style. I have always loved the movie, Dolphins Tale. In that movie the dolphin Winter goes through so many obstacles that he somehow finds the courage not to give up through it all. In high school there are many difficulties. This school year has been hard. I have had so many inconveniences; School work is so much harder than past years, I had finger surgery, found out my patellar tendon is fraying, and got a concussion the week of my birthday and could not play on my birthday. I strive to be like Winter that went through so much and still got through it. It has helped me realize that I can rise above it. When I got back to basketball, I gave my all because so many people expected me to fail. I am rising above and proving myself to others but most of all to myself.

I used the element of form by using nails to make the dolphin stand out. Form are three-dimensional shapes, expressing length, width, and depth. Balls, cylinders, boxes and triangles are examples of form. Color is light reflected off objects. Color has three main characteristics: hue or its name (red, green, blue, etc.), value (how light or dark it is), and intensity (how bright or dull it is). Color was used with the distinct colors of string I used on the nails.

Contrast was used with using varied materials in the art. Contrast can help create FOCAL POINTS in the work of art by placing CONTRASTING ELEMENTS next to each other. When placed next to each other, CONTRASTING ELEMENTS will grab your attention. Emphasis is the part of the design that catches the viewer’s attention. Usually, the artist will make one area stand out by contrasting it with other areas. The area will be different in size, color, texture, shape, etc. Emphasis was used when I sketched out how big I wanted Winter to be without it looking out of place.

This project was so much fun to do because it is something out of the box. Most people, when they think of art the think of color on a piece of paper, or paint on a canvas. This project means a lot to me because many people do not think this is art, but to me it is, and that is all that matters. I used to be afraid of trying something new with art because I felt like it had to be just like the original, but I have learned now that it does not have to be. I enjoy my art so much more this way.
