This fishes name is Flipper, and it is in the medium Prisma color pencil. I chose to do this because it reminded me of a day. Some days are dark and don’t go as planned, maybe you got an F on a test are maybe you just didn’t eat breakfast. But most days you are happy and thriving like this fish is happy and glowing with energy. Some days are going to be bad but try and brighten it up like this fish. When I look at Flipper it just makes me want to have a great day because it is just beaming with energy. I want to radiate energy like this fish, and maybe people will follow in my footsteps and do the same.
The elopement of value was used in blending the multiple unusual colors on the fish. Value was also used to blend all the sea around the fish. Value refers to light and dark drawings and paintings are made up of light, dark, and middle value areas. I used texture when drawing the lines on the fish to make it look like it has scales. Texture is the surface quality that can be seen and felt. Textures can be rough, smooth, soft, or hard. Textures do not always feel the way they look; for example, a drawing of a porcupine may look prickly, but if you touch the drawing, the paper is still smooth.
I used emphasis when drawing the fish in the middle of the page. Emphasis is the part of the design that catches the viewer’s attention. Usually, the artist will make one area stand out by contrasting it with other areas. The area will be different in size, color, texture, shape, etc. I used proportion when drawing Flipper, so it covered the whole page, but it still looks like a fish. Proportion is the feeling of unity created when all parts (size, amount, or number) related well with each other. When drawing the human figure, proportion can refer to the size of the head compared to the rest of the body.
I enjoyed this project very much because it brought me back to freshmen year when I discovered Prisma colored pencils and instantly fell in love with them. It was irritating to figure out what colors would blend well together. So I used a separate sheet of paper a lot of trial and error but I eventually got it. Make the background look like the ocean a lot of blue colored pencils were sacrificed but it was for a good deed. Overall, I loved doing this project because it made me realize that my attitude can affect the people around me. So, I want to strive to be like Flipper and radiate great energy like it.
